Welcome to Jamie O Smith Therapy!
I'm a Bristol-based psychotherapist working in person and online. I
believe passionately in the power of counselling and psychotherapy to help people overcome challenges and lead a more fulfilling life.
ABOUT ME
WHAT DO I DO?
I offer one-to-one psychotherapeutic counselling in person (near Whiteladies Road), online, or by telephone. This can be either short-term counselling for specific issues or more open-ended psychotherapy for broader concerns. Beginning therapy can feel overwhelming, so I’ve put together an FAQs page with answers to the questions I’m most often asked about getting started.
For more about what therapy with me might look like and how to begin, take a look at my Therapy page.
I also offer best-practice training for mental health practitioners on a range of specialist topics. If you're a practitioner or organisation interested in training, you can find out more on my Training page.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
I am BACP-accredited therapist with a Master’s in Counselling and Psychotherapy. My primary training was integrative, and I'm trained in the psychodynamic, person-centred, and gestalt approaches. This broad foundation allows me to tailor therapy in a way that genuinely fits your unique needs, supporting you in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.
I bring extensive experience from working in the mental health sector both in the UK and internationally, supporting people in a wide range of contexts. To deepen my practice and ensure I provide the most respectful and effective therapy, I have undertaken additional training to work in an anti-oppressive way, recognising and addressing power dynamics and systemic inequalities. I am also trained in trauma-informed approaches that prioritise safety and empowerment, in neurodivergence-affirmative practice that values diverse ways of thinking and experiencing the world, and in supporting Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) with sensitivity and respect.
VALUES
I believe passionately that psychotherapy and counselling can benefit everyone, and I don’t believe they should be accessible only to a select few. I welcome and work with people from all life stages, sexual orientations, neurotypes, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds. You may want to learn more about me before we begin working together — you're very welcome to ask any questions you may have. I am a registered BACP member and abide by their code of ethics for practice.
